When I was younger, my friends and I used this Hunger Games simulator to play around with random characters (and sometimes even ourselves). I thought it would be fun to use it again, but this time with book characters. It’s a sort of throwback to the past, but also some potential celebration for the upcoming release of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. 

I have taken liberties with age and incorporated adult characters as well as teens, just for fun (age doesn’t matter in this simulator anyway). Due to the nature of the simulator, I have also taken liberties where actions are the same to avoid boring you with repetitiveness, and added my own commentary in square brackets 🙂

Note: the simulator doesn’t throw the events at you in the same succession each time, so there’s another level of unpredictability. Sometimes there are Catching Fire based events, too 😉

Let the games begin…

 

The Bloodbath

As the tributes stand on their podiums, the horn sounds.

Scarlett Dragna finds a canteen full of water. [Well done Scar, stay hydrated]

Viola Eade, Citra Terranova, Rowan Damisch, Inej Ghafa, Peeta Mellark, Elizabeth Bennet, Paul Atreides, June, Linh Cinder, Jean Tannen, and Locke Lamora run away from the Cornucopia. [That’s a lot of runaways @_@]

Kvothe, Fitzwilliam Darcy, Prince Kai, and Denna share everything they gathered before running. [Seems legit]

Day repeatedly stabs Todd Hewitt to death with sais. [OOF BRUTAL]

Kaladin Stormblessed, Dalinar Kholin, and Chani work together to get as many supplies as possible. [Seems like a Kaladin/Dalinar thing to do honestly]

Kaz Brekker retrieves a trident from inside the cornucopia. [Kaz being sneaky as usual]

Donatella Dragna stays at the cornucopia for resources. [Seems like something Tella would do]

Katniss Everdeen runs into the cornucopia and hides. [Oh gosh Katniss you did WHAT]

 

Day One

Linh Cinder and Day discover a cave. [This feels very dangerous for some reason]

Citra Terranova makes a wooden spear. [That’s my girl!]

Locke Lamora is pricked by thorns while picking berries. [Oof Locke]

Dalinar Kholin, Jean Tannen, and Viola Eade hunt for other tributes. [This is actually a pretty decent team]

Donatella Dragna travels to higher ground. [Interesting…]

Paul Atreides, Inej Ghafa, Kaz Brekker, Kvothe, and Denna hunt for other tributes. [Okay, so Kaz found Inej, and Kvothe and Denna are still together]

Fitzwilliam Darcy and Peeta Mellark discover a river. [Is this… the love interest duo?]

Prince Kai practices his archery. [Um okay then]

Kaladin Stormblessed runs away from Rowan Damisch. [KALADIN DOES NOT RUN AWAY. EXCUSE ME, HONOR IS DEAD]

Elizabeth Bennet tends to Katniss Everdeen‘s wounds. [Wait… this is the love interest duo but genderswapped]

Scarlett Dragna steals from June while she isn’t looking. [Dang, June. You should have seen it coming.]

Chani injures herself. [Oops.]

Night One

Paul Atreides and Kvothe think about home. [aww]

Inej Ghafa begs for Chani to kill her. She refuses, keeping Inej Ghafa alive. [Chani? Inej? I kind of like this alliance]

Donatella Dragna loses sight of where she is. [Oh dear.]

Fitzwilliam Darcy, June, Elizabeth Bennet, and Denna sleep in shifts. [I’m not fangirling over Lizzy and Darcy, promise]

Scarlett Dragna, Peeta Mellark, and Katniss Everdeen cheerfully sing songs together. [This feels like an unrealistically happy version of Katniss and Peeta.]

Rowan Damisch is unable to convince Jean Tannen to not kill him. [Hmm, that’s definitely Jean.]

Citra Terranova goes to sleep.

Prince Kai fends Dalinar Kholin, Linh Cinder, and Viola Eade away from his fire. [Cinder wouldn’t betray Kai… would she?]

Kaz Brekker sets up camp for the night. [Kaz you lost Inej again]

Locke Lamora tries to sing himself to sleep. [This is… really sweet.]

Day lets Kaladin Stormblessed into his shelter. [I also like this temporary alliance.]

 

Day Two

Prince Kai and Paul Atreides question their sanity. [I think anyone in the Hunger Games would question their sanity.]

Kvothe and Elizabeth Bennet split up to search for resources.

Chani chases Peeta Mellark. [I wonder who’s going to come out of this alive.]

Scarlett Dragna runs away from Locke Lamora. [I guess Locke can be scary sometimes.]

June attacks Fitzwilliam Darcy, but he manages to escape. [Darcy’s actually doing pretty well, I’m impressed.]

Denna diverts Linh Cinder‘s attention and runs away.

Dalinar Kholin poisons Katniss Everdeen‘s drink. She drinks it and dies. [KATNISS IS DEAD ALREADY?]

Donatella Dragna kills Citra Terranova with a hatchet. [Now that’s brutal.]

Kaladin Stormblessed defeats Jean Tannen in a fight, but spares his life. [Whoa. Maybe honor isn’t dead after all.]

Inej Ghafa and Kaz Brekker track down and kill Day. [Kaz and Inej are back again!]

Viola Eade practices her archery.

FALLEN TRIBUTES: Rowan Damisch, Citra Terranova, Day, Katniss Everdeen

 

Night Two

Scarlett Dragna loses sight of where she is.

Dalinar Kholin cries himself to sleep. [Poor guy.]

Kvothe and June talk about the tributes still alive. [Could they be plotting something together?]

Viola Eade cooks her food before putting her fire out.

Inej Ghafa is unable to start a fire and sleeps without warmth. [Ah well, Inej has known tougher things]

Fitzwilliam Darcy, Peeta, Paul Atreides, and Prince Kai sleep in shifts. [GUY SQUAD]

Locke Lamora begs for Kaladin Stormblessed to kill him. He refuses, keeping Locke Lamora alive. [Okay so now Locke is going a little insane]

Jean Tannen and Denna huddle for warmth. [This… feels wrong.]

Chani, Kaz Brekker, and Elizabeth Bennet cheerfully sing songs together. [Kaz Brekker? Cheerfully singing? I wish I could hear that.]

Linh Cinder tends to her wounds.

Donatella Dragna receives medical supplies from an unknown sponsor. [I guess the hatchet incident made her a little more popular. The Capitol really does enjoy a bloodbath.]

 

Day Three

Prince Kai and Denna split up to search for resources.

Fitzwilliam Darcy tracks down and kills Paul Atreides. [I can see the headlines now: Regency Era Tribute Claims Unexpected Victory Over Chosen One]

Elizabeth Bennet defeats Jean Tannen in a fight, but spares his life. [Lizzy beat Jean? That’s incredible. The Pride and Prejudice duo are doing so well.]

Chani steals from Peeta Mellark while he isn’t looking. Scarlett Dragna also steals from June while she isn’t looking. [Lots of sneakiness going on around here]

Inej Ghafa thinks about home. [Aww]

Kaladin Stormblessed collects fruit from a tree.

Donatella Dragna fishes.

Dalinar Kholin and Viola Eade work together for the day. [Bad idea. Dalinar might just end up adopting Viola.]

Kaz Brekker receives fresh food from an unknown sponsor. [Someone likes Kaz, it seems.]

Locke Lamora and Kvothe split up to search for resources. [Yeah, I do feel that these two would be decent friends.]

Linh Cinder explores the arena.

 

Arena Event

A fire spreads throughout the arena.

Peeta Mellark, Chani, June, Kaladin Stormblessed, Linh Cinder, Donatella Dragna, Viola Eade, and Denna survive. [I’m still impressed that Peeta keeps going strong]

Scarlett Dragna kills Jean Tannen in order to utilize a body of water safely. Elizabeth Bennet also kills Kaz Brekker in order to utilize a body of water safely. Dalinar Kholin kills Fitzwilliam Darcy for the exact same reason. [First of all, I’m pretty sure Jean wouldn’t let himself be killed so easily. Second of all, Lizzy is better than Kaz? AND NO NOT DARCY]

A fireball strikes Prince Kai, killing him. [Cinder’s not going to like that.]

The fire catches up to Kvothe, killing him. [Kvothe, too? That’s a little tragic.]

Inej Ghafa falls to the ground, but kicks Locke Lamora hard enough to then push him into the fire. [Oh wow… Inej… I actually feel a little sorry for Locke now.]

Night Three (mostly uneventful)

Linh Cinder quietly hums.

Viola Eade receives medical supplies from an unknown sponsor.

Scarlett Dragna cooks her food before putting her fire out. [It’s interesting that Scarlett hasn’t joined forces with Tella yet.]

Chani, Peeta Mellark, and Inej Ghafa cheerfully sing songs together. [After Paul, Katniss, and Kaz’s deaths? Well okay then]

June thinks about winning. [Yeah that’s definitely June.]

Donatella Dragna sees a fire, but stays hidden.

Dalinar Kholin screams for help. [Oh no?]

Elizabeth Bennet receives an explosive from an unknown sponsor. [Yikes, Lizzy’s popular for sure.]

Kaladin Stormblessed is awoken by nightmares. [Hmm, I kind of regret putting Kaladin through more trauma, even after what he’s already gone through in The Way of Kings.]

Denna looks at the night sky. [I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s feeling a little reflective after that fire.]

 

Day Four

Chani kills Elizabeth Bennet as she tries to run. [And there goes Lizzy. I guess those explosives weren’t that helpful after all.]

Peeta Mellark kills June as she tries to run. [Whoa Peeta!]

Kaladin Stormblessed explores the arena. [Seems clever.]

Denna goes hunting.

Inej Ghafa defeats Viola Eade in a fight, but spares her life. [Inej did always like mercy.]

Linh Cinder stalks Donatella Dragna. [Oooh this could be interesting.]

Dalinar Kholin begs for Scarlett Dragna to kill him. She refuses, keeping Dalinar Kholin alive. [So Scar is okay with killing Jean, but decides to spare Dalinar. Must be a certain charm about the Kholin family.]

FALLEN TRIBUTES: Elizabeth Bennet, June

 

Night Four

Kaladin Stormblessed sees a fire, but stays hidden.

Scarlett Dragna is awoken by nightmares.

Denna poisons Peeta Mellark‘s drink, but mistakes it for her own and dies. [Is Peeta invincible? He just doesn’t die]

Linh Cinder, Donatella Dragna, and Chani discuss the games and what might happen in the morning.

Viola Eade climbs a tree to rest. [Viola’s been a bit of a loner recently. It might be the safest option.]

Inej Ghafa receives clean water from an unknown sponsor.

Dalinar Kholin starts a fire. [I wonder if this is the fire Kaladin saw?]

 

The Feast

The cornucopia is replenished with food, supplies, weapons, and memoirs from the tributes’ families.

Donatella Dragna, Peeta Mellark, and Inej Ghafa decide not to go to The Feast.

Chani and Kaladin Stormblessed get into a fight over raw meat, but Kaladin Stormblessed gives up and runs away. [Life before death? Or strength before weakness?]

Linh Cinder severely injures Scarlett Dragna, but puts her out of her misery. [There goes the first Dragna sister]

Viola Eade sobs while gripping a photo of her friends and family. [Poor girl…she’s the youngest of them left]

Dalinar Kholin falls into a pit and dies. [nooo]

 

Day Five

Inej Ghafa hunts for other tributes.

Peeta Mellark falls into a frozen lake and drowns. [I probably shouldn’t have made that comment about Peeta’s invincibility.]

Chani ambushes Donatella Dragna and kills her. [Chani’s more vicious than I thought. Both Dragna sisters are down now.]

Kaladin Stormblessed attacks Linh Cinder, but she manages to escape. [Cinder = very good at escaping things.]

Viola Eade explores the arena.

FALLEN TRIBUTES: Denna, Scarlett Dragna, Donatella Dragna, Peeta Mellark, Dalinar Kholin

 

Update: Top 5

 

 

Aside from good ol’ Kaladin, we’re surprisingly down to an all-female cast, with Chani and Inej having the most kills under their belts. Also, since everyone left represents a different district, we’re probably not going to be playing with nightlock.

 

Night Five (things escalate)

Chani is unable to start a fire and sleeps without warmth.

Viola Eade and Linh Cinder fight Kaladin Stormblessed and Inej Ghafa. Viola Eade and Linh Cinder survive. [That is a surprisingly quick way to kill off two characters in one go.]

 

Day Six

Chani sets an explosive off, killing Linh Cinder. [Wait — I think those are Lizzy’s explosives. Oh, wow.]

Viola Eade dies from hunger. [I guess that’s the downside of setting out on your own.]
